“Mrs Smith” (AKA Sara Finlayson) is a dance music veteran. A regular at Melbourne’s gay clubs in the eighties (“the only places you could hear good dance music in Australia”), she worked in the nightclub industry before moving to London to work at Tower Records dance department. She was active in the London rave scene of the early nineties, before moving to Los Angeles, where she met “Mr Smith” (AKA Christopher Lawrence, a struggling bedroom DJ) and they were married shortly after. Continuing her career in dance music, Sara worked for several years for German techno star Sven Vath at the LA office of his labels Eye Q Music / Harthouse before becoming the Los Angeles editor of respected US electronic music mag XLR8R, as well as contributing to magazines including the UK’s Muzik and DJ Mag. During this time, Sara also produced music with Dave Aude under the moniker Mile High for Moonshine Music. It was also in the late nineties that Sara formed Monster Media, a management and PR company specializing in dance music, under which she managed the careers of artists including husband Christopher Lawrence, a position she continues to this day. A familiar face backstage in the dance music industry, Sara brings her tough attitude out of the shadows and into the DJ booth with ‘Mr + Mrs Smith’.

“Mr Smith” (AKA Christopher Lawrence) needs no introduction. One of the World’s leading dance music talents, Christopher has received numerous awards and accolades. Winner of “America’s Best DJ” (DJ Times 2008), “Best American DJ” at the IDMA’s, Christopher is also a recent recipient of the “Best DJ” at both the Dancestar US Awards and Los Angeles Music Awards. He has additionally been nominated in Dancestar UK Awards, DJ Awards, International Trance Awards, Global DJ Mix Awards and IDMA’s to name a few. Christopher has also graced the covers of countless magazines, newspapers and publications worldwide, as well as headlining the worlds biggest superclubs and festivals.

Winner of the ‘America’s Best DJ Award’ (DJ Times, 2008) and voted #4 DJ in the World (Top 100 DJ Mag, 2006) Christopher Lawrence is recognized worldwide as one of the World’s top DJs and producers. Dubbed “A Superstar DJ” by the US’s URB and “One Of The Most Popular DJs On The Global Circuit” by DJ Magazine, Christopher Lawrence is one of the biggest, most respected and popular names in dance music today. Once an outsider in a world dominated by European and UK DJs, Christopher has risen to the top of the international dance music heap. He is now considered one of the key global players and America’s leading dance music export, playing his tough techno trance sets main stage at the world’s biggest festivals and superclubs.
Over the past few years, Christopher has received numerous awards and accolades. Described as the “Biggest DJ in the USA” by the BBC’s Radio 1, Christopher clocks up over a quarter of a million frequent flyer miles a year and a list of international events too long to mention. In the past year alone, Christopher has appeared everywhere from Creamfields to Global Gathering to Ministry of Sound. He has toured China, United Kingdom, Mexico, Ibiza, Australia, Taiwan, Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Japan, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Colombia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Russia, El Salvador, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Slovenia, Panama, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Thailand, Guatemala, and Canada. Meanwhile, back in North America, Christopher continues to be one of the countries most sought after DJs, headlining the nations biggest superclubs and festivals. Christopher has played the famed Coachella festival more than any other DJ, and was also the only US DJ invited to headline all three of the inaugural Ministry Of Sound, Cream and Gatecrasher tours of America.
Described as “A Highly Respected Producer” by Mixmag, Christopher won a preliminary Grammy nomination in 2002. A trance pioneer since the nineties, Christopher’s tracks have been hammered by DJs from Paul van Dyk and Tiesto to Paul Oakenfold to mention a few. Christopher’s reputation as a producer is superlative with a discography of groundbreaking tracks such as ‘Freefall’, ‘Beyond the Limit’, ‘Attention’, ‘Scorcher’, ‘Shredder’, ‘Rush Hour’ and ‘Cruise Control’, plus bootleg remixes such his recent ‘Gotham’. Christopher’s music has also appeared on TV shows such as MTV’s ‘Real World’, to Hotwheelz DVDs to computer games including ‘Need for Speed 2’.
In late 2008, Christopher has remixes of some of the world’s biggest artists, including Enrique Iglasius, plus an exclusive remix deal with Motorola for their forthcoming series of international mobile phones.

Over the past decade, Christopher has also established himself as one of the US’s biggest selling DJs. His debut artist album ‘All Or Nothing’ and the follow up, ‘Un-Hooked’ both topped the iTunes dance charts and met with widespread chart and critical acclaim from the world’s toughest critics from Rolling Stone to the Washington Post. Christopher has also released a string of record breaking mix compilations including ‘Rise’, ‘Temptation’, ‘United States of Trance’ and ‘Subculture’ and most recently, ‘Gatecrasher: Live in Moscow’ (MOS), Unfold (Fektive, Europe) and ‘Global Trance Grooves Presents Two Tribes’ with whom he joined forces with UK trance superstar John “00” Fleming to record.

Not one to rest, Christopher turned his talents to radio in 2008, with the launch of ‘Rush Hour’. Within months ‘Rush Hour’ became one of the fastest growing and most popular dance music shows on the planet with syndication on DI.fm, Worldspace global satellite and over ninety FM stations around the world from Romania to Jakarta to Australia. ‘Rush Hour’ also became one of the most downloaded and popular dance music podcasts on iTunes. In the same year, Christopher also officially launched his label Pharmacy Music with successive top ten hits showcasing releases from undiscovered young producers from around the world.
Always pushing the limits, Christopher’s website was designed by the groundbreaking and award winning 2Advanced and was nominated in the “Best Music Website” category of both the SXSW and the Webby Awards. On the big screen, Christopher has appeared in ‘Full or Ferry – Masquerade”, ‘Midsummernight’s Rave’, as well the documentaries ‘Liquid Vinyl’, ‘Intellect’, ‘Put The Needle On The Record’, ‘World Party On Tour’ and ‘American Massive’ to name a few.
In the world of international dance culture, there are DJs who are leaders and those who are followers. Christopher Lawrence is a true leader.

When it comes down to his style it could be described as frenetic, fast paste and in your face. Unlike your typical DJ who plays a track out to its fullest, BRD likes to cram an enormous amount of songs into each set he does. Along with his DJing skills, BRD has a fidget/electro side project that he likes to through into a lot of his mixes.

When asked about his style, this is what BRD had to say: “With trance its different because it’s all about the build up, every part of a trance song is essential to a trance mix. With electro and house on the other hand, the tracks tend to drag on and go nowhere fast. So I decided to basically play the best parts.”

Every 3rd Thursday of the month the Bistro 400 in downtown Santa Ana gets transformed into The Sound Lab, which hosts electro, trance, techno and house artist in the area.
